In the red corner, released on May 26th, 2009, a Playstation 3 exclusive title, and starring the lean mean fighting machine Cole MacGrath, Infamous! And in the blue corner, released on June 9th, 2009, a game for all platforms, and follows the shape shifting protagonist known as Alex Mercer, Prototype! These two games are very similar in style, story, and even release times. But which one is better? Will it be Prototype, the fast paced in-your-face action game? Or will it be Infamous, with its strategy and storyline that is second to none? Two will enter, only one will emerge victorious. Who will it be?

Storyline/Overview

Prototype – Prototype is a game based in the near future. The story begins with Alex Mercer (the player) about to be dissected by two scientists. Just before the scientists carve you open and pick at your insides, your character suddenly wakes up. You are then chased outside, where you are shot several times. Alex becomes stunned but is not out for the count. He manages to escape with little to no damage thanks to his new found regeneration abilities. The player is then told that Alex has amnesia, and can’t remember anything about his past or who he is. That’s right people, you guessed it, you’ll now have to spend the entire game figuring out who Alex Mercer is, and seeking vengeance for whoever made him the horrible creature that he is. Along the way you will be given several weapons and ways to kill and destroy things, which range from an extending arm much like Mr. Fantastic, to stealing a poor and pitiful soldier’s assault rifle, and using it to kill all of his other soldier buddies. You will also be given the ability to “consume” an enemy, which plays a major role in the games framework. Consuming will appear in almost everything you do, you consume to learn about your past, you consume to trick enemies, and you consume to gain health back quickly, pretty much everything. This can become a little tedious, but the massive amount of ways to consume enemies keeps it from getting stale. Military and the infected are your main enemies throughout the course of the game, you may choose to help one or the other more, but both will attack on sight.

Infamous – Infamous takes place once again in a near future world. This story however begins as soon as you press the play button. Your background will immediately explode with what looks like an EMP shockwave, leaving the player shocked and confused. Cole MacGrath is your main guy in this adventure. It begins with you waking up in a half destroyed city, your buddy Zeke will immediately call you and inform you that you need to escape from the mess of a city that you’re currently in. While running away you realize that you have superpowers (who would have guessed?), and you don’t know how exactly you got them. Once you make it to the bridge leading to the next city, the sky will rain down with lightning, and all nearby police and civilians will be killed. Once you make it across the bridge, Cole with conveniently pass out. It will then give you a comic-book style slideshow explaining what exactly happened. Your main objective here is to kill the people who caused the destruction of your city, get out of the city (which is on lockdown after the first mission), and either save or destroy the city along the way. Cole has the powers of electricity, which allows him to do pretty much anything he needs. Kill, fly, heal, destroy, you name it; Cole can do it using his electrical powers. Along the way you will fight upwards of three different types of enemies. Your first will be the Reapers, a ragtag group of thugs who come in large groups but are easily destroyed. Next is the Dustman, a group of homeless people, who band together after the explosion in order to take over the district in which they live. Lastly will be the First Sons, an ancient fraternal organization, who are the strongest and most persistent group of enemies.

Side Missions

Infamous – In Infamous you will be given the option of doing several side missions along the way. As you do these side missions, the city will clear out of any bad guys, and will allow you to walk freely without getting shot at. The missions will consist of doing anything from your basic kill missions to posing for pictures for a local photographer. Although every side mission is repeated 2-3 times throughout the entire game, the large number of different missions and randomness of the mission order keeps it fun and interesting. There are jobs specific to your karma level (good or evil) that will appear. Good jobs generally requires you to help the cops and get rid of the baddies in a clean and lawfully just manner, while choosing the evil missions generally involves a massive amount of bloodshed usually demanded by the people. These jobs will help your karma level swing one way or the other, which will unlock more upgrades for your abilities. However, there is one negative to the side missions, once they are complete, the area is clean, for good. Meaning if you finish all the side missions, there will be no more enemies for you to play around with.

Prototype – With the complex storyline of Prototype, it is hard to see where side missions would come into play within the life of Alex Mercer, and Radical Entertainment doesn’t attempt to explain how they fit in. The side missions in Prototype are general used to gain extra experience points, which are the main way to upgrade your skills (along with consuming). However, the experience from the main missions and the amount of experience you gain from randomly killing is sufficient enough to get 90% of the skills you need and want, so most will be doing them to get some break from the main storyline or just to have a little bit of fun. Missions come in three forms, the first and most random is your standard race missions. Get to checkpoint A, checkpoint B, checkpoint C, etc. in the allotted time, the faster you get there, the more experience you get. Your second and most enjoyable will be the kill missions. Most will give you a set power, and let you run amuck killing as many enemies as possible, the more you kill, the more experience you gain. The last type of mission will be your consume missions, which begin by consuming marked army personnel. You will then be asked to consume X number of people. Do it all correct and in the time given, and you’ll get a nice chunk of experience. Although these missions are fun and good break in the main storyline, they will get old fast. And for those overachievers, Prototype will tell you how many more side missions you have to complete, so if you’re like me, you will want to finish it just to say you did.

Sandbox

For those who don’t know, when someone mentions the word “Sandbox” in a video game, they are referring to the ability to reign free and do whatever you want. Well some games, like Call of Duty are extremely linear, others like Grand Theft Auto allow you to explore freely and do as you please. Both Prototype and Infamous are set in a sandbox style game play, which means you choose when you want to do the missions, and how many side missions you would like to do.

Prototype – Prototype does an excellent job of allowing the player to really feel like they are in control of the city. The city itself is extensive and is mapped out to look exactly like Manhattan. Alex himself is able to climb up buildings very easily, and jump off of buildings and fly to the next one using his “Glide” ability. This makes just running around the city fun in itself. As well, since the game has no moral obligations to be good or evil, you have the ability to kill who you want when you want. And with the abundance of civilians noticeable around every turn, you will find yourself pulling out one of your many weapons and going to town on the nearest patch of passersby. This part of the game (unlike almost every other aspect) never seemed to get old; I enjoyed just running into the middle of a military base and fighting for a good five minutes before sprinting away. I have to give serious ups to Radical Entertainment for the work that was put into the sandbox style play.

Infamous -While his counterpart (Alex Mercer) is able to run straight up walls with no problems at all, Cole must literally climb up buildings. He will have to grab onto windows, gutters, wires, dents, and scratches in the buildings in order to get to the top. This can make the free roaming ability a little more tedious and slow paced, but gives a good challenge on those buildings which have few notches to climb up. As mentioned earlier, the side missions will put a serious cramp in your style if you choose to finish them all. Once they are all complete, you will be left with civilians. If you choose the evil route, and choose the evil ending, there is no major problem with this, however, if you are good, you will run out of things to shoot, and fast. Once and awhile a few enemies will appear in contained areas, but the civilians along with the few remaining cop members will usually take them down before you can even get a shot off. More than likely you will end up turning bad, or starting a new game in order to keep having fun.

End Result?

Both Prototype and Infamous are extremely well developed games, both are worth purchasing. If you have to choose one, and you own a PS3, go with Infamous. Its superior storyline and ability to keep you entertained is an extreme plus. However, if you are more of a sporadic gamer, who usually doesn’t finish games, Prototype may be your game.

Infamous -
Pros
• Amazing storyline that is captivating and interesting
• Simple and fun, easy to pick-up and play
• Enjoyable side-missions
• Karma decisions, resulting in different storyline, skills, and ending
Cons
• Fairly short if played straight through
• Climbing can slow game down and frustrate
• Enemies become very difficult to kill
• Completing side missions can cause player to run out of enemies to fight

Prototype -
Pros
• Fun sandbox mode
• Many different weapons and abilities to choose from
• Movement and travel is easy and simple
• Map/layout fits Manhattan exactly, and looks well done
Cons
• Confusing and complicated storyline
• Fairly easy, even on hard difficulty
• Repetitive missions
• Repetitive action

Overall Prototype gets a 4/5
Overall Infamous gets a 4.5/5

If you own a PS3 then you are always going to want to make sure that you are up to date on the latest and greatest technology, namely accessories. Sony and other companies are always releasing new and wonderful accessories for the PS3, one of the best which is the PS3 keyboard.

With the PS3 keyboard you will find playing your games much easier and especially if you want to have chats via the system you will need to have this accessory. There are a few different companies offering the PS3 keyboard, and here are a few of the top picks.

Logitech NetPlay USB Keyboard

This PS3 keyboard is without a doubt one of the best accessories that you can purchase for the PS3. This keyboard is more than just a keyboard, it is a controller. It looks somewhat like a smaller keyboard with the sides of a PS3 controller, and on each handle there are large, blue transparent analog sticks.

On the right handle are the Start and Select buttons, and on the left side is a unique looking direction pad. You get everything that you would with a regular controller and more, and because the keyboard is larger than an actual controller you will find it easier to play games, especially RPGs where you will feel like you are more in the game.

This is a terrific PS3 keyboard, especially for the price it is available at, and you can find it at all Logitech retailers.

MadCatz PS3 Wireless Controller ThumbPad Keyboard

This is another very popular PS3 keyboard. There are many wonderful features offered by this keyboard, and a few of this are a functional multi-key QWERTY interface, and as well it enhances in-game messaging capabilities, convenient clip-on design, fully compatible with PS3’s web browsing functions, plug and play technology, and all PS3 controller buttons are accessible as well.

These are just a few of the many keyboards for the PS3 that are available, and the best idea is for you to consider what you need in a keyboard and controller, and then find the one that is going to work best for you.

These keyboards offer you everything that you need from both a keyboard and a PS3 controller and so you can get rid of all your other keyboards and controllers and just keep this single accessory, to make everything a great deal easier on yourself and be able to enjoy your PS3 gaming to the fullest.

Sony is just about the only company in the gaming world that takes your safety and security as an important issue when playing their consoles. PS3 hacks are virtually nonexistent because Sony has made sure that this can be prevented. It is important for companies to provide this security for their gaming systems, and it is there in order to protect you, whether you like it or not.

What Are Hacks?

Hacks are different depending on what type of system you are talking about. A regular computer hacker uses the internet to get into someone else’s personal accounts. A hacker with a gaming system can mean changing settings that cannot otherwise be changed or finding a way to play pirated games. Pirated games are games that have been burned onto a disk from an original copy, much like copying a music CD or video DVD. PS3 hacks cannot be done because Sony has taken the time to make sure that the system is impenetrable from hackers. This is a situation with a lot of pros and cons for the gamers out there.

Why Shouldn’t We Hack?

It may seem harmless to try and uncover PS3 hacks, but when you really think about it, eventually the consequences will catch up to you. If PS3 hacks were widely available in order to play pirated games, then you might not see it now, but costs will go up on you. Eventually, games will cost more in order to make up for the loss in profits for pirated games. Not only that, but if PS3 hacks are discovered and distributed, there will be little else for the major gaming companies to do but to create a new system. This new system will be expensive and will have harder to crack security features. This will only frustrate gamers in the end.

If you are determined to find PS3 hacks, and if you do find one, it is best to keep it to yourself. Once you have told everyone in the world that there’s a PS3 hack, Sony will more than likely develop a way to keep this from happening by putting new locks on games or finding some other way to prevent hacking the system. It is good to not widely distribute your step-by-step instructions for hacking. If you want to be able to keep playing pirated games, it is best to just keep it to yourself. There’s no reason you have to share your discovery, unless you want Sony to find out.

If you are like most other gamers, chances are that you won’t be blessed with too long an attention time span and so what you will want more than anything else to know about would be a chance to learn by reading various PS3 game reviews that hopefully will be able to provide you with useful information about what particular games have to offer and whether they are indeed worth buying or not. To help you assess the validity of different PS3 games, you need to look for some PS3 game reviews that should be able to also provide a star rating method that helps identify the better PS3 games from those that can safely be ignored.

Explain Ratings For Different Games

The better PS3 game reviews usually will start off with an explanation about the ratings for various PS3 games and they also help gamers to identify the criteria used which will help them understand how the reviewer quantified their review of different PS3 games. Furthermore, the PS3 game reviews must also explain different levels with regard to game play including whether the level is that of a beginner or an intermediate player or even an expert player.

Other aspects that PS3 game reviews should touch on include how the game feels when playing it, its level of responsiveness and the speed at which the game can be played because these are aspects to PS3 games that gamers would want to know more about. In addition, the PS3 game reviews must also touch on how good or bad the graphics are and whether characters are realistic or not and the same goes for the general scenery.

Finally, PS3 game reviews must be able to point out how well does the game perform and whether there is any cheating going on that can detract from the pleasure of playing the game. In addition, PS3 game reviews must point out whether there are any way those gamers can increase their score by learning certain tricks and strategies.

Good PS3 game reviews should provide useful insights about various tricks that can be learned that will make the game more exciting and if there are any tips that gamers should know about in order to maximize their playing experience, and then these should also be pointed out in the review.

Suffice to say that there are many things that should be mentioned in PS3 game reviews though the more interesting and pertinent ones will doubtlessly have to deal with how to get the best out of particular games. And any tricks and tips mentioned would go a long way in helping one to distinguish a useful review from one that is less than useful.

There are many advantages that are offered to you as a result of you using PS3 demos. For one, you get to try out the PS3 demos without committing to buy anything, which is really important because there is obviously no point in you investing money in something if you are only going to end up finding that you do not enjoy.

There are various different PS3 demos that you can try out, and you can even find PS3 demos right at the Playstation store which is available both in person and online. If you decide to go via the online route then the process is very quick and simple.

All you need to do to get PS3 demos is find the demo that you want, download the demo onto your computer and then try it out for yourself. There are even some demos that you do not have to download at all, and rather you can try it out entirely over the website.

One of the most recent PS3 demos was on the new motion sensing controller, which features modern motion sensing technology and which is basically a refined version of the PS2’s popular DualShock design.

Overall the controller was taken with great stride however there were a few problems posed here, including that the new six-axis sensing system integrated into the controller does not support the vibration feature that is available on the current-generation controllers. This is due to an interference with the sensor.

Getting Started

Trying out PS3 demo is something that any PS3 gamer can do, whether they are a beginner or have been playing the game for a while. Even if you have not yet purchased your own PS3 system, trying out demos may be the way to get you to finally decide to push through and make the buy.

The PS3 is the most recent home video game system released by Sony, and one of their most popular of all time. There are literally hundreds of different games that are on the market for the PS3, and demos are available for most of these. Just make sure that if you are downloading any demos over the Internet you are going through a safe and secured site so that you will not have to worry about viruses and other computer threats.

So as you have seen here, there are many benefits offered to gamers who try out the PS3 demos, and this is definitely something that is worth taking the time to do.

When choosing a gaming console for your home, you will want to weigh all of your options. The big three gaming consoles are the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and the Playstation 3 consoles. Each have different functions, features, and gaming options. You will want to check out all three options before you make your choice, but the best by far are the Playstation 3 consoles. The Playstation 3 provides the best features and options for the beginner as well as the expert gamer. Playstation 3 beats out all the other competition with its look, feel, and performance.

Playstation 3

Playstation 3 consoles have the best options for serious gamers. This video game console was first release in the fall of 2006 and has been one of the most popular gaming consoles since then. The Playstation 3 consoles have options for storage. You can buy the basic Playstation 3 consoles that have a 20GB hard drive, or you can choose the premium version of Playstation 3 consoles that come with a 60GB hard drive and many more additional features. The best part about getting a Playstation is the online gaming service that it provides. The Playstation Network is one of the best online gaming services on the market.

Other great features of the Playstation 3 consoles are the option to play and store on Blu-ray discs, multimedia capabilities, and the convenience of being able to have connectivity with the Playstation Portable for even more fun on the go. If you already own a Playstation Portable, it will work with your new Playstation 3 by being able to transfer data and take your games on the go. This is a convenience that many people today cannot live without.

Though the Playstation 3 has stiff competition from Xbox and Nintendo, the Playstation 3 still out performs any of the other console systems. It was one of the first to be released and has been getting upgrades over the past two years in order to compete and outshine the other, newer gaming systems that still may have hidden bugs to get worked out.

If you are thinking about buying a new system in your home, consider Playstation 3 consoles. They will give you the maximum amount of fun and gaming with options and features that you just can’t get anywhere else. And with the best online gaming service available, you will never be bored with a Playstation 3 in your home.
