What Sims 2 Has That the Original Doesn’t
Even if you are not an experienced gamer, chances are that you have heard of The Sims. This popular computer game has become the best-selling PC game ever created. The original Sims game was first released in 2000. What makes this game so attractive to gamers? The Sims clearly stands out from the bunch: there are no monsters, fireballs, zombies, or other such elements. Rather, The Sims has proven a real treat and addiction for gamers everywhere because the game succeeds in approximating a world like ours, but not quite. The Sims allows players to become a guardian of sorts for a collection of fictional characters that seem to exist in a parallel digital world.
With the overwhelming success of The Sims, it comes as no surprise that the game has prompted the creation of several Sims spin-offs and sequels. If you are familiar with the first Sims game, but haven’t yet played Sims 2, here is a brief overview of the differences between the two games. One of the first things you will notice when you fire up the Sims 2 is the amount of new detail. Sims 2 stays close to the tried and true formula for success launched by the first installment, but it adds a lot of detail that was missing from the first. These details featured in both the actual game play and the graphics of Sims 2.
Perhaps the first thing you will notice is that the characters look different: they are sleeker, their clothes are updated, and their features appear overall sharper. Moreover, Sims 2 gives the player much greater control over the appearance of the Sims characters. With Sims 2, you can actually play with and change the features of your characters. You can change the curve of their chin, their hairstyles, clothes, even the way their nose sits on their faces. Unfortunately, many Sims players have found that the interface for controlling the character’s features is not entirely intuitive or easy to use. But with practice, you can find many different ways to play with the characters features.
Another major update to Sims 2 is the quality of the graphics. Most all users will agree that the graphics used in Sims 2 are sleeker and more sharp than those available on the original Sims version. Many Sims gamers have noted the attention to detail used in the graphics. Even small things, like the wires on the back of smoke detector, are evident. Another important aspect of Sims 2 is the game play. Many users have commented that the game play on Sims 2 is more elaborate and details than the original version. For instance, many of the newer details allow the player to interact with objects in ways that were not possible in the original Sims version. For instance, the original Sims let the characters read the newspaper for finding a job. The Sims 2 game allows characters to read the newspaper for a job, plus fill out the crossword puzzle, and make it into an airplane if they so wish. These types of interactive actions are available throughout the game in a number of places.
The Sims 2 also allows for a much more involved family life. In the original Sims game, the characters were allowed to mature from babies, to young children, adolescents, and then adults. Then they simply stopped aging. The Sims 2, one could argue, is more true to real life. In The Sims 2, characters are allowed to age in to old age, and even die. Allowing characters to exist through a complete life span is probably one of the biggest updates to The Sims 2.
