Even The Sims Have Bills (and Cheat Their Way to Avoid Paying Them)
Yes, it’s true: even our dear Sims characters are burdened with the displeasure of having to pay bills on a regular basis. But this is part of what makes the Sims games such a draw: their lives can often mirror ours, sometimes eerily so. How do the Sims resemble us, the controllers of their destinies? Well, like us, the Sims have to eat, they have to learn how to cook well enough not to make themselves sick or put the kitchen on fire, they have to learn to make social connections in order to be happy and advance in their careers, they meet and then lose lovers, they yearn for fame, money, love, or just a quiet evening spent in front of the television set. Yes, the Sims characters are a lot like us in many respects. One of these similarities happens to be in one of the most mundane ways possible: they Sims have to put up with paying bills too!
In our world, the mailman often leaves a stack of bills in our mailbox. In the Sims virtual universe, things are not so different. Here too, the mailman will leave bills for the Sims characters. Like in our world, the bills that the Sims receives will not be purely random. Their bills will reflect the things they own, the things they owe, and their pattern of ownership. Fortunately for us, bills seem to arrive faster in the Sims universe. In general, you can expect that your Sims characters will receive bills approximately every three Sims days. Most bills are due within ten Sims days. After ten days, the bill is considered officially overdue. How do you know if your bill is overdue (or not)? The creators of the Sims games have made it easy on us. They have color-coded the bills to remind us about what needs to be paid right away. The bill will usually turn yellow after you receive it, then it will fade to an orange color, and finally, if you have been avoiding it or have simply forgotten to pay for it, the bill will eventually turn a flaming red.
What happens if you forget to pay off a bill? Or maybe you have been purposely avoiding it? Those Sims who do not pay their bills on time will have to reckon with the Repo Man. If you fail to pay your Sims bills by the ten-day deadline, the Repo Man will come knocking on your door. When the Repo Man comes, you can expect that your Sims’ most precious and expensive items will be taken away from the premises. Why should you be worried about the Repo Man coming and taking objects away? Many times, the Repo Man will go after your Sims’ most precious objects. These are usually objects that took a long time for you to accumulate—these are things you simply do not want to lose. Losing one or more of these items could even compromise other aspects of the game. To avoid having the Repo Man take away these cherished objects, you should get into the habit of paying your Sims’ bills right away.
OK, so let’s assume you really, really don’t want to pay your Sims’ bills. Yes, like in most other aspects of the Sims game, there is a way around paying your bills. There is a cheat code that can keep you from paying your bills. To gain access to this cheat mode, simply type “ctrl + shift + c” while playing the game. Once you are in cheat mode, type in the word “cheat” and hit enter.
