How to Make Friends in The Sims World
Friendships are one of the greatest sources of fun—and anxiety—in our daily lives. Where would we be without our friends? The greatest of friendships, it seems, are the ones that are the most uncomplicated. We get along with our closest friends with great ease. But friendship can also get complicated: there’s the anxiety of finding new friends, of maintaining old friends, and getting along with friends whose personalities sometimes clash with our own. The Sims world is not different from ours in this respect. Friendships in the Sims can be just as difficult to maintain as those in our real lives. Friends in the Sims universe can be fickle, flaky, backstabbing and downright mean.
However, just like in real life, it’s important to maintain social connections and nurture true friendships in the Sims universe. At the very least, your Sims characters need to be able to maintain friendships in order advance in their careers and keep their social motives fulfilled.
Also like real life, making friends in the Sims universe is not an exact science. You will have to experiment with different approaches to find what works best for your character. Fortunately, the more your character practices in the art of making friends, the better he or she will become at it. Although there are several ‘cheat sheets’ in circulation that can help your characters make friends, there are also many tried and true methods that will get your character to the friendship level. To make friends in the traditional way, your character should act much like most individuals act in real life. First, get your character to talk to another character.
After all, nobody ever made friends by staying perfectly silent. Have your Sims character greet a potential friend with a normal greeting. Have the character follow through with at least a couple of interactions. You can monitor how the friend-making process is going by checking out the character’s friendship points. If the friendship points are low, tread carefully. Don’t have your character do anything rash or unexpected, such as kissing a character he or she does not know well. Keep your character talking, and if possible, have him or her crack a few jokes.
Other simple tips to making friends in the Sims universe also reflect true-to-life experiences. One simple way to break the ice and make friends is to have the characters go inside and eat together. Eating is one of the Sims’ favorite activities. It is a great and simple way to break the ice between characters. Once the characters have finished eating, have them relax together. Watching TV is a simple way to establish a burgeoning friendship. You can also have the characters share in other similar group social activities. Always allow the potential friend talk. Don’t let your Sims character dominate the conversation. Before the night is through, don’t forget to allow your Sims character to say good night. The next day, call the potential friend. Allow the characters to chat over the phone, or invite the potential friend over for another social gathering.
An easy way to allow your Sims character to establish plenty of friendships is to create a lot of neighbors for them. Sounds simple enough, but it’s important that your Sims character has access to as many other characters as possible in order to forge a handful of solid friendships. Also, if you create a large family for your Sims character, there is better chance that he or she will establish plenty of friendships. Remember, if one of the family members makes a friend, that person is counted as a friend to every member of the family. Another fairly easy way to make friends is to have your character give gifts. These can be simple or elaborate. Just like in real life, it’s the thought that counts.
