A Quickie Overview to Creating your Own Things for The Sims

Published by Author at 3:27 pm under The Sims

Part of the appeal of playing a game like The Sims is that it requires thought, planning, and consideration—much like real life. The Sims seem to exist in a parallel universe to our own: they have motives, needs and interests just like us; they have career choices to make; social connections to create and sustain; and like us, they eventually age and die. However, one thing you cannot do with your Sims characters is have them go to the store and buy just about any thing they want for their house or lives. This is where you—the player—becomes key. If you are a Sims gamer and fanatic, chances are at one point you thought to yourself: Wouldn’t it be nice if my characters could have (fill in the blank here)? Well, if you haven’t figured it out yet, it is possible to create your own things for the Sims universe. Creating your own objects to insert into the Sims universe can be fun and addicting. Beware that once you get started creating objects for your Sims characters, chances are you will become hooked.

One of the simplest ways to introduce objects into the Sims universe is to clone them. You can clone objects and then upload them into new object files. By far, the easiest way to clone and upload items is through the wildly popular The Sims Transmogrifer. The Sims Tranmogrifer—nicknamed T-Mog—was the creation of Sims gamers, someone just like you. It is described as a third-party add-on for The Sims games. The Sims T-Mog lets you create brand-new objects that can be introduced into the Sims universe. The T-Mog also allows you to recolor already-existing objects. This allows for a fair degree of customization and personalization for your Sims characters. The T-Mog is also a fairly powerful editing tool that allows you to edit objects that already exist in the Sims universe. One of the problems with using the popular T-Mog is that it is not supported by some systems. For instance, EA or Maxis have never supported the Sims T-Mog. In order to start using the Sims T-Mog, simply download it from one of many popular Sims sites on the Internet.

Another popular way to create new objects for your Sims characters to play with is through the use of several downloadable online programs, such as the popular Blueprint. Blueprint is described as an object utility for The Sims. It uses 3D input to create IFF object files that can be used in the Sims. Like the Sims T-Mog, Blueprint also allows you to customize already existing objects. You can change the texture and size of certain objects so that they fit into your Sims universe. A powerful built-in material editor allows you to change the images and textures of your object files. You can set the room values and flags for new and already existing objects. The program even allows you to preview the way your objects will appear in the game in real time.

Yet another popular program that is available for download online is called ObjectEditor (there is also an ObjectEditor Lite available now). This is one of the simplest utility programs available for editing objects in the Sims universe. ObjectEditor will only allow you to change the properties of one object at a time. The program works by allow users to change the properties of already existing Sims objects. You can build mode flags and change values to alter the way an object appears in the game. ObjectEditor is popular because it is supported by so many Sims games, including the original Sims games, Living Large, House Party and Hot Date.
