Making your own skins for the Sims can be one of the highlights of playing this popular interactive game. Why should you consider making your own skins for your favorite Sims characters? Experimenting with different skins and skin features can be one of the most rewarding aspects of playing the various Sims games. In order to get new Sims skins, there are several downloads available that can give you access to a whole library of skins. Many players decide to create their very own skins for the Sims characters. Creating your own skins provides an element of customization that would otherwise be very difficult to achieve. Changing your character’s skins can change the whole trajectory of the Sims game. The Sims characters will act different with different skins. Changing the skins of your characters can allow for a whole other level of interaction with the Sims.

Before you begin making your own skins, you have to lay down the foundation for ’skinning.’ To begin, you must first download some base skins. Base skins are also known as nude skins. As the name implies, these are skins operate kind of like a blank slate that you can build on and personalize. To find nude base skins, do a search on the Internet. There are various Sims skin pages from which you can download nude base skins. Before you can begin to customize your nude base skins, you will need access to a paint program. Most computers come with at least a basic paint program. You can sometimes also download free paint programs from the Internet. Some serious Sims skinners choose to use more elaborate programs, such as PhotoShop and PaintShop Pro. You don’t need to spend lot of money on a paint program to make nice looking skins. But if you are serious about skinning, these programs do offer extensive features that can allow ample room for experimentation and design.

Once you have access to a paint program, go ahead and launch it and prepare to get started. Begin by playing around with the paint program. Get to know the features and play with the various tools of the paint program that you will be using before you get started with skinning. Hopefully, the paint program you will be using has the following features. An airbrush: the airbrush tool lets you control the opacity of your skins. Opacity refers to how thick or thin the color appears on the skin.

Another feature that most paint programs will offer is the paint bucket fill. The paint bucket fill allows you to ‘color in’ areas with the click of a mouse. Another common tool is the selection feature. The selection tool will allow you to fill in areas with just about any color you choose. Hopefully, the paint program you will be using also offers some sort of layering tool. Like the name implies, the layering tool allows you to layer different colors, objects and textures. If you are very serious about skinning, you may want to consider using PhotoShop or PaintShop Pro. Both of these programs offer layering tools.

Once you feel comfortable with your paint shop program, it’s time to get started skinning. Go ahead and open up a nude base skin file. Use the selection tool to begin to add color to the nude base skin. You can start by adding clothes. Once you have filled in the clothes and features, preview your creation by using the SimShow program. You will have to save the file before you can run it on SimShow. If you are not happy with the results, return to the paint program, and use the Undo option to begin work again. Keep going until you have a skin that you are satisfied with.
